Drawing of the Day: Welcoming Summer

I always know summer is in full swing when the tree in my backyard becomes thick with ripe, purple mulberries :P

Drawing of the Day: Toutes les filles sont Folles

All the girls are mad. That's what the tile means, in case you were wondering.
That was also the theme for Kate Spade's whimsical, Parisian-themed 2012 fall collection chock-full of cloche hats, bows, kitten heels, elegant gloves, quirky clutches and polka dots. So of course I had to try my hand at sketching the delectable collection. Here's one outfit; more coming soon!

First, the inspiration...

The beginnings :)

Now, filling in the empty spaces

And the final product :)

Drawing of the Day: Black & White

I decided to do an old-fashioned sketch post today, one that's simply pure drawing; no colour to fill in the empty spaces.

Drawing of the Day: White Collar Kiss

Inspired by Louis Vuitton, the pastel trend and the South African band White Collar Kiss :P

Drawing of the Day: Modern Marilyn

The sketch was obviously *inspired* by Marilyn Monroe but represents the modern day working girl at the same time. This girl is exotic and beautiful but also more practical, professional and headstrong. And the bag represents the increased freedom *of speech, expression, equality, voting rights etc* that women have gained over the years.

I think every girl needs a perfect balance of sheer strength and delicate femininity in her. I learnt that from Make It or Break It lol :P
Which is a VERY good show by the way

Drawing of the Day: Girl in the Window

First try at a portrait...yikes.
But I think it turned out okay :)

And I just have to throw in a song :)

Pencil vs Camera

So I've honestly just got serious with sketching and because of that I'm constantly looking for other sketches online and tons of other artwork to draw inspiration from and get references.
That's how I found these amazing blogs whioch you should totally see for pure visual pleasure: My Closet in Sketches and Inslee Blog.

Now I'm thinking that was a bad idea because my sketches look horribly inferior compared to theirs...humph -__-

Anyways I found another *awesome* set of sketches titled Pencil vs Camera.
Seriously, it's the coolest thing ever and it'll probably take me 50 years to drag myself up to that level. See for yourself :)
